1923 Cole Two Person Coupe

Return to the Registry

This car was a test car built in 1922 by JJ Cole for his son JJ Cole Jr.  This car tested the balloon tires that Cole was a pioneer of in the auto industry.  The car also tested 4 wheel brakes, a multi disk transmission and other features.  This car is a one of one as the body style is never known to have gone into production given that Cole started the liquidation of the company in 1924.  The car is currently on loan to the Gilmore Car Museum in Michigan.  There is a picture of the proposed car ad for marketing as well as the text of a letter from Firestone to Henry Ford mentioning this car and the balloon tires.  The car was stored in the basement of the Cole Motor Car factory until the 80’s.
